Shared parking. Fair access. Phased capacity.
Apartment charging is rarely as simple as installing one charger per resident — shared parking, limited electrical capacity, and the need for fair access all have to be worked through before a single unit goes on the wall. Lightning Energy works with resident welfare associations (RWAs) and facility managers to plan charging that fits within an apartment complex’s existing electrical infrastructure rather than requiring an expensive full upgrade on day one.
A common approach is to start with a smaller number of shared chargers in visitor or common parking, using load management so that multiple charging bays share the building’s available capacity without overloading it, then add capacity as resident demand grows. Access control — deciding who can use which charger, and how usage might be billed back to individual flats or the association — is typically discussed during the same planning conversation.
Because every building’s transformer capacity, parking layout and resident governance process is different, we treat each apartment project as its own site survey rather than assuming a one-size answer. If your RWA or management committee is exploring EV charging, our team can walk through what a phased rollout could look like for your specific building.
