EV Charging Connector Guide: Type 2, CCS2 and More

A quick reference for the connector types you will actually run into while shopping for a charger in India.

Connector confusion is one of the most common sources of buying mistakes for first-time charger shoppers. Here’s a quick reference for the connector types most relevant in the Indian market today.

Type 2 (AC)

The standard AC connector for electric cars sold in India, used for home, workplace and public AC charging up to 22 kW. If you’re buying an AC charger for a car, this is very likely the connector you need — but always confirm against your vehicle’s manual.

CCS2 (DC)

CCS2 extends the Type 2 shape with two additional pins for DC fast charging. Vehicles that support DC fast charging typically use CCS2 in the Indian and European markets. It is not interchangeable with Type 2-only AC charging — a CCS2 DC charger will not work with a vehicle that doesn’t support CCS2 DC input.

CHAdeMO

An older DC fast-charging standard, more common on some vehicle models than others. Confirm with your vehicle’s manual if you’re specifically shopping for DC fast charging compatibility.

Domestic sockets and Type 6/7 (2 & 3 wheelers)

Many electric two- and three-wheelers charge via a domestic-style plug or smaller connector standards like Type 6 or Type 7, rather than the Type 2/CCS2 connectors used by cars. Universal charging sockets are designed to serve this segment flexibly using the vehicle’s own charging cable.

Industrial AC

Used in some commercial and fleet settings for higher-current AC connections rather than a standard Type 2 plug, typically specified by the vehicle or equipment manufacturer.

If you’re unsure which connector your vehicle uses, check the charging port cover or your vehicle handbook before ordering — or reach out through our contact page and we’ll help confirm compatibility.
